The holidays are a time for dining, dancing, and of course—dukes! Celebrate the Christmas season with this enchanting collection of historical romances featuring the most eligible bachelors of the ton…

A childish prank may have reunited the Duke of Hollingsworth with his estranged wife, but only the magic of Christmas will show this couple ’tis the season of second chances…

Sophie Kinsley planned to remain a wallflower at the Duke of Helmsworth’s ball. Yet when a dance with him leads to a stolen kiss, will the duke be willing to let her go? Or will Sophie’s Christmas wish be granted at last?

To the Duke of Vale, science solves everything—even marriage. When the impulsive Ivy Sutherland makes him question all of his data, he realizes that he’s overlooked a vital component in his search for the perfect match: love.

Patience Markham never forgot the fateful dance she had with the future Duke of Kingsbury. But when a twist of fate brings them together for Christmas Eve, will the stars finally align in their favor?

Not more promo . . .

What can I say? I have lots of news to share.

My first chapter for THE SEDUCTION OF HIS WIFE is up on my website: here

Also an exclusive here (until I can find the time to put it up on my website), the back cover for THE SECRET DESIRES OF A GOVERNESS.

YEARNING FOR HIS TOUCH

From the moment Abby meets her new employer—the mysterious, brooding Earl of Brendall—she is appalled by his brutish manner. . .and even moreso by her own attraction to him. Has she lost her senses? As a governess, Abby has no choice but to play by the rules. But as a woman, she cannot deny the fiery sensations he ignites—or the fantasies he inspires. . .

BURNING FOR HER KISS

From the moment Elliott lays eyes on his new young governess, he knows he’s in trouble. Abby is intelligent, defiant, and utterly captivating, though Elliott must do his very best to resist her. But as the two grow closer, the passion burns hotter. Soon, the only thing that can destroy their love is the darkest secret of his past—and the secret desires of a governess. . .

Ely tells me that Secret Desires is like Beauty & the Beast having babies with Jane Eyre. Or maybe vice versa?

What are your favorite mash ups of romance tropes? And yes, I have to admit, B&B and JE are two of my favorites!

In the life . . .

First and foremost . . . the winner for the Surrender of a Lady ARC is MsHellion! Please send me your snail mail addy!

My blog is entitled ‘In the life . . .’ which really could end on a thousand notes.

For me, my life right now includes getting up at 4 in the morning to first take out my new puppy (which by the way I’m still totally obsessed with her), do copy edits for The Secret Desires of a Governess (which must be done this week) go to my full time day job (because I’m crazy) and then coming home and taking care of my puppy and kids, doing more edits before bed (or sometimes a blog *w*) then going to bed so I can do it all over again.

And when I’m not doing copy edits I’ll be working on my next proposal (Teddy’s book, if anyone remembers) I’m really looking forward to that, his book was very special to me (when I wasn’t cursing that I was writing what I know (classical music & musical theory/history)

Really, that has to be the most UNEXCITING LIFE EVER!

Do any of our readers do anything exciting (certainly everyone must be way more exciting than I could ever be) during their day to day?

Though, I must say, Scarlett is way exciting. I adore her to death and so do my kids! They fight about who can carry her around the house! It’s freaking adorable!

Also, The Surrender of a Lady was nominated for the RT Best first historical award! Along with the wonderful Courtney Milan and her book: Proof by Seduction!

Miranda Neville Guest Blog

Hello Vixens
It’s lovely to be here with you to talk about my new book THE DANGEROUS VISCOUNT.

Now as you may guess from the title, this is a “hero-centric” book. My shorthand description of the plot is “Regency Revenge of the Nerd.” Sebastian Iverley is a badly dressed book collector who wears spectacles and has nothing to do with women. And I mean nothing. He’s totally inexperienced. Then he catches a glimpse of Diana Fanshawe’s leg and falls for her. He thinks Diana returns his feelings, until he discovers she kissed him to win a bet with his hated cousin Blakeney. To get his revenge, Sebastian gets himself an extreme makeover, intending to break Diana’s heart.

It’s a male Cinderella story but today I want to talk about my heroine. She’s not as obviously “different” as my nerdy hero, but neither does she fit the common stereotypes.

1. She is not remotely a Mary Sue. She is not sacrificing herself for her family, selflessly caring for orphans (or stray dogs), or holding her head up bravely through poverty and hardship.

2. She is not kickass. She doesn’t have a job, want a job, want to save the world, or have any useful skills. It’s just as well she’s never attacked on a dark night because she’d have no idea how to defend herself. When she’s held up by a highwayman, the only weapon at hand is her miniature embroidery scissors.

She loves clothes and hats and her idea of fun is redecorating the house. She worries about her weight. She married once for money (though she was fond of her much older husband) and she wants to marry again for status and because she likes sex (she has her eye on a hot ducal heir). She finds her family’s eccentricities embarrassing and her mother drives her nuts.

On the other hand she’s smart, kind, warmhearted and loves her crazy family, especially her little sister, whom she wants to give every advantage she herself lacked. She’s really fun and I would love to be one of her girlfriends.

Diana isn’t as shallow as she appears. Even before his makeover, she appreciates Sebastian for the interesting man he is. While approving of his improved appearance, she fears he may have lost something in the transformation.

As with any Cinderella story the characters have to learn to distinguish between appearance and reality. And it’s always a toss up which has the most to learn.

You can find an excerpt from the book on my website, or the go to the HarperCollins site for the first 60 pages.

SURRENDER OF A LADY RELEASE DAY!

IT’S RELEASE DAY FOR THE SURRENDER OF A LADY! HAVE YOU BOUGHT YOUR COPY?

I thought I’d make this a fun blog today and offer up ten things about THE SURRENDER OF A LADY that you won’t have previously guessed, or known.

1) I chose Jinan’s name based on definition. Meaning, I looked for names that meant Paradise. Jinan was not only the prettiest, but I have a great love for names beginning with J.

2) Lord Rothburn has always been ‘Rothy’ to me. I’ve always called him Rothy, and continue to do so. He did not have the name ‘Griffin’ until the book was mostly written.

3) The original title for the book was HIDDEN BEAUTY. Named after the Lithograph (on the right) by Clemens von Pausinger.

4) I didn’t think this book was going to turn out to be a romance because the first half of the book was only told in my heroines point of view. I didn’t even really know the hero for the first half of the book.

5) It is the smallest things that give me the most problems researching. I had to find a fast ship. One faster than the Ottoman’s Xebecs. It took a whole night emailing my critique partner back and forth to find an American Clipper that could not be beat for my hero to whisk away my heroine.

6) Also spent a weekend researching islands in the Mediterranean. It had to be warm, Turk owned and so many days away from Brindisi by ‘Clipper’. My critique partner and I visited many tourist sites till we found the Isle of Corfu. Can I tell you how much I want to go there now?

7) I never saw Amir (the heroine’s owner) as hero material. I mean, the dude’s a pimp in every sense of the word. However, it’s easy to understand why he does what he does, and a reader might not agree with what he does but they understand him.

8) All my chapters have titles. Those titles came before the words to tell me what I needed to accomplish. It is essentially a teaser of what will happen. Slave Trader; Initiation Into the Harem; Griffin Summerfield, Marquess of Rothburn; Reunion and Reconciliation; The Way of Life; The Surrender of Reservation . . . for the rest, you’ll have to read the book 😉

9) I took my worst fear as a mother (losing a child) and made my heroine, Jinan experience what it might be like for her to never see her child again. But I give her a chance to change that unfortunate fate. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for my children. In fact, I would do anything to save them, including everything Jinan endures.

10) I didn’t set any of the book in England, because it wouldn’t be true for my characters. Jinan leaves her English life behind and she has no desire to ever return to the country she was born in because it’s not part of who she is anymore. Jinan and Rothy are quite happy to live as outcasts in their beautiful Italian villa.

Have you ever read certain settings in romance novels or researched various places for your writing that you are now dying to visit? Comment for a chance to win a copy of SOAL I’m giving away on the blog (North America only)! I’m also giving one away on Twitter today, so be sure to follow me and comment for your chance to win!

Beta vs. Alpha vs. Fake Alpha

You’re probably looking at the title going huh? There’s a fake alpha? Well, I’d like to think so. I’m sure the fake alpha can also be referred to as a Gamma… but for the purpose of this blog I’m going to call him the fake alpha.

What is a fake alpha? My interpretation is: Someone who appears on the outside to be a domineering, forward, take charge man, but on the inside might be acting that way for forms sake, but isn’t necessarily as confident as he seems.

Did I confuse everyone? LOL That’s about how I feel–confused and frustrated. I’m currently revising my composer book. And Thaddeus is about to have a makeover. He is a beta through and through. (And the only beta I’ve ever written.) I love a good beta and alpha like any woman, but for Thaddeus this is serious flaw in his make-up. So… I have to turn him into a fake alpha. It’s a fine line to walk when making changes though, because it’s easy to turn him into an alpha, but in doing so, I’d lose the essential characteristics that make him such a great guy.

Are there any books you’ve read that have a fake alpha that you would recommend? Maybe the hero acts like an alpha in public settings, but that is just a show he is putting on. Maybe you’ve read an alpha that is unsure of himself? Or just not the domineering type and will let things be as they are. Do any writers out there have any suggestions?
